Choosing a Detailer · Buyer Awareness
Who to choose? The Hustler, the Gouger, the Entrepreneur, a tale of three detailers.
The Hustler
Suspiciously low prices, no website, ten or fewer social media “reviews,” and no address listed. They only communicate via messenger apps when convenient for them. They pop up every spring and disappear with the leaves on the trees. Best case, they do a great job, but when you try to schedule more work, they’ve gone out of business. Worst case, they’ve taken your money and left you with problems they’re unwilling to address, or they’ve ghosted you entirely.
The Gouger
Posts content with nothing but supercars. Has a fancy website with no pricing, because “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it.” They only offer all-or-nothing packages because their “reputation” matters more than your budget or the actual value you’re getting. They often make unverifiable claims of being “top-rated” or “#1 in the area,” sometimes promoting an exclusive or “elite” status with a particular brand, bragging about how other detailers can’t even get the products they offer. They have complete confidence in the quality of their products, yet most of the vehicles getting them will never see a single drop of rain or flake of snow.
The Entrepreneur
The sweet spot. Has a clean, professional website with transparent pricing ranges because they respect your time and budget. They don’t just work on exotic supercars, they treat a daily-driven Honda with the exact same care and precision as a Porsche. They don’t hide behind gimmicky “lifetime” warranties or exclusive elite badges. Instead, their reputation is built on real-world results, education, and honest communication. They take the time to understand your specific goals, explain proper maintenance, and stand firmly behind their workmanship. They aren’t trying to make a quick buck or make you feel inferior, they’re here to protect your investment and build a relationship that lasts for years to come.
Next time you’re choosing who’s going to work on your car, ask yourself which of these three you’re actually talking to.
